Curio quilt all done

Finishing quilts is such a high! Especially when you pull them out of the dryer all warm and snuggly. Mmmm, it's the best! All the doubt and worry about how it'll turn out disappears....at least for me. It's finished and I'm happy.

Front

I chose an all over pattern called Dusty Miller petite by Patrician Ritter of Urban Elementz

 I used some of my half square triangles that I had left over from when I was attempting a different design for the front. I think I might actually like the back more than the front.

 You can really see the lovely quilting design on the back. I used the co-ordinating green grunge and I love that it's like a solid but has some great interest.

I even hand sewed the binding down. How bout that?

Curio quilt top continued

As I was laying the blocks out for this quilt on my bed I was having some serious reservations about continuing. It just looked like a hot mess. Since I didn't really have time to start over from scratch I decided to just move forward. Luckily once all the blocks were sewn together the quilt top didn't look too bad. 

 Adding a couple of borders really helped as well

So off to the quilters she goes.

Curio Quilt Redesign

So I've been very slowly working on the Curio quilt for the wonderful lady who watches my son three days a week. Since her kids are a little older than my guy the summer schedule was going to get a bit tough with nap times and extracurricular activities so we decided it was time to change things up. So now instead of lazily working on it through the rest of the year, I need to whip it out by the end of the month. 

My original inspiration was this:

The blocks were taking much too long to put together and weren't lining up well since I was working on it haphazardly so I decided to go with this inspiration instead:

Zoom....this is going much quicker. Hopefully it turns out nicely. :)

Another Quilt begins

Probably more than one. I seriously need to stop buying fabric. I've got fabric for at least 5 or 6 quilts.  I do know what each pile of fabric is eventually going to be, so at least that's good. I think.
Working for a living really cramps my sewing time I gotta tell you. Anyway, on to the most recent pile.

So a couple months back I bought a charm pack because it was on sale. A little later I realize that I'm just not going to be able to make a lap quilt with only a charm pack & a solid color. Then I saw this picture of a quilt in progress on one of the blogs I follow:

I couldn't wait to see when it was finished so I could see the overall design.

Meanwhile there's a sale on the yardage on some of the fabrics in the charm pack I bought, so I buy some and a little while later the lovely lady finishes the quilt top and while it is excellent, its not the look I was imagining in my head. Darn it. Back to the drawing board...

Luckily I came across this quilt:

Along with an excellent tutorial. Exactly the inspiration I needed. Unfortunately the size appeared to be more of a crib size than a lap quilt. So I decided to buy a layer cake to go with my charm pack and just up the size of the blocks.
Then I realized in order to make it I'd need another charm pack. Son of a ...sheesh.

So now I'm going to kind of wing it I think. Each time I make one big block I get two smaller blocks. So I'm going to make my way through the layer cake, charm pack & extra yardage and see where this quilt takes me. Hopefully somewhere lovely.  This one is eventually going to be going to the wonderful lady who watches my son 3 days a week. For now I'll call it the Curio quilt since that's the fabric line, from Basic Grey for Moda.
